Category: Alumni Award-Uvigo Professional career

Pablo de la Iglesia Castro:
Industrial Engineer from the University of Vigo. He is a member of the State Corps of Industrial Engineers and serves as Head of Area at the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, where he leads the deployment of Energy Saving Certificates (CAE) and the development of national renewable energy storage policies. His career combines experience in the private aerospace sector with senior management in the public administration, highlighted by a distinguished academic career, recognised with the First National Graduation Prize as the best industrial engineer in Spain. His professional journey exemplifies technical excellence, leadership, and a commitment to the energy transition and innovation in the service of society.

Héctor Estévez Pomar:
A Telecommunications Engineer from the University of Vigo. He is the CEO of CENTUM Research & Technology, from which he has led the consolidation and international expansion of LIFESEEKER, an innovative technology for locating missing people which also has clear applications in the defence and security sectors. At the helm of the company, he has driven its growth, turning it into a technological benchmark with an international presence and more than a hundred professionals. Furthermore, he actively participates in the sector's development as treasurer of the Galician Aerospace Cluster, contributing to the strengthening of the Galician aerospace industry.

Alberto Gonzalez Muino:
A Telecommunications Engineer from the University of Vigo. He is the co-founder of Alén Space, a Galician company specialising in the design, development and operation of small satellites (CubeSats), which has established itself as a European benchmark in the NewSpace sector. Under his leadership, the company develops innovative solutions that facilitate access to space for companies, institutions and research centres, contributing to the democratisation of space technologies. His track record is distinguished by its commitment to innovation, technological excellence and the international projection of a business project born in Galicia.

Ana Jiménez Roca:
Graduate in Translation and Interpretation from the University of Vigo. She is the founder of Verbas Global Languages, a company specialising in translation services, conference interpreting and the management of multilingual events with an international reach. After developing her professional career in London as an interpreter for international organisations and multinational companies, she returned to Galicia to start a project that, in less than two years, provides services in Europe, the United States, Africa and Latin America. Her career stands out for its commitment to a global business model, based on professional excellence and intercultural communication as a strategic tool for organisations and institutions, demonstrating the internationalisation capacity of entrepreneurial talent from the University of Vigo. Iria Varela Campo:
A graduate in Biology from the University of Vigo, Iría is the co-founder of ODS Protein, a technology-based company born at the University of Vigo dedicated to the development of highly nutritious proteins obtained sustainably through fungal fermentation processes. The project is committed to new food production systems capable of reducing the consumption of natural resources by more than 95%, transforming food industry by-products into protein ingredients for various food applications. Her track record is distinguished by her drive for innovation, sustainability, and the transfer of knowledge from the university to the business sector. Elena Martínez Martínez:
A graduate in Marine Sciences from the University of Vigo, Elena is the co-founder of the BlueGea Group, an international group made up of two private companies (SOS Carbon and SOS Biotech) and an NGO, the Terra & Marre SOS Foundation. Initiatives in the field of blue biotechnology and the circular economy. She develops projects that combine innovation, sustainability and climate action by harnessing invasive algae to produce bio-based products for agriculture, cosmetics, new materials and climate change mitigation. Her work integrates science and entrepreneurship to drive solutions that restore coastal ecosystems, strengthen local economies and reduce reliance on high-carbon-footprint products. Her work has been recognised with her inclusion in the Forbes 30 Under 30 list, highlighting her as one of the most promising young female entrepreneurs. Lucia Leiros:
Artista visual graduada en Belas Artes pola Universidade de Vigo. A súa práctica artística céntrase nas relacións entre territorio, memoria e ecoloxía desde unha perspectiva ecofeminista, empregando principalmente a cerámica e outros materiais vinculados ao contexto. O seu traballo foi recoñecido con diversos premios e seleccións. Paralelamente, é cofundadora de Lupercais Arte, un colectivo dedicado á creación de espazos e proxectos para a promoción da arte emerxente en Galiza, impulsando iniciativas expositivas, curatoriais e de mediación cultural que contribúen ao fortalecemento do tecido artístico galego. Rosanna Ojea Carnero:
She holds a degree in Advertising and Public Relations from the University of Vigo. She is a cultural manager, pianist and communicator, and a promoter of key venues in Galicia such as Café Vitruvia and projects that promote music and the arts, such as the MusicaV Festival and the recent Compass Academy. Through organising meetings, presentations and cultural activities, she has made a significant contribution to the dynamisation of cultural life and to supporting literary creation. Her career has been recognised for her commitment to promoting culture and for creating spaces for dialogue and exchange between authors and readers.

Ramón Méndez González:
He holds a degree in Translation and Interpretation from the University of Vigo and is currently an Assistant Professor of Doctoral Studies. He has over two decades of experience in the video game industry, where he has worked as a journalist and localiser. Throughout his career, he has participated in the localisation of more than a thousand video games and has received numerous nominations and awards for his work. Among the most recent, in 2024 he and his team were recognised with four awards for Best Video Game Translation at the ATRAE and DoblajeVideojuegos awards for the titles Atomic Heart and Baldur's Gate III, with a further recognition in 2026 for his work on Clair-Obscur: Expedition 33. In addition, he is the author of eighteen books and is highly active in outreach, helping to raise the profile of the profession and promoting the image of the University of Vigo through interviews and collaborations with media outlets and content creators.

Rita Portela Maquieira:
She holds a degree in Biology from the University of Vigo. She is the founder of Panificadora Mencer, a special employment centre established with the aim of promoting the employment inclusion of people with disabilities through the artisanal production of bakery and pastry products. The company, in which more than 95% of the workforce is made up of people with disabilities, has become a benchmark for social entrepreneurship in Galicia by combining the creation of inclusive employment with the production of high-quality food. Its track record is distinguished by its commitment to equality of opportunity, socio-laboural integration and the generation of a positive impact on the community.

Álvaro Soto Táboas:
An engineer from the University of Vigo. He is the driving force behind Voar Motos, an innovative project focused on the design and manufacture of electric motorcycles adapted for people with reduced mobility.
